Lost, Hurting and Offensive

This was the best week ever! Well, if you’re my daughter anyways. This was the week of the annual church camp. Typically she begins asking around Christmas if it’s almost time for Mega Camp. Then the week finally arrives and in blur of loud music, dance moves, activities and fun as fast as it came it ends. Perhaps the highlight of the week are the opening and closing rallies. Fun songs with lots of dance moves that my daughter has memorized. When she gets home she continues the music by playing all the songs on her Kindle, over and over and over.

Yesterday my daughter was outside with the next door neighbor kids trying to teach them all the dance moves. Then today she was dealt a harsh blow when one of the kids declared at the top of their lungs that ‘God isn’t real! Jesus isn’t God!’ She’s 7, yet inside it hit her hard.

Anytime people mock our God or deny His existence, something inside of us stands up and wants to fight. However, that’s not what God wants us to do. Arguing with people about God or His son, Jesus will never do any good. I don’t know that anyone has ever been won over to Jesus by arguing. The example Jesus left for us is to love them.

Love them. So easy to type, not so easy to do. By the grace of God He will enable us to love them and not argue with them, even when we are offended and want to defend ourselves. I truly believe that the only way to accomplish this is to have a deep relationship with Christ. The deeper our relationship with Him the more like Him we will be.

For my daughter, we are encouraging her to continue shining bright for Jesus, sharing His love and telling others about Him. We are also encouraging her to pray for those who have yet to meet Jesus. What about you? What about me? Are we praying for those that are lost and hurting and treat us with contempt and disgust because they don’t know Him?

Oh Lord, break our hearts for what breaks yours. May we not be offended but compelled to bring the lost to you. Help us to be like Jesus.
